A two-metre-wide art installation, titled Asteroidea, will be displayed against the east window of Salthouse Church next month, and the public will be welcome to come and view the artwork.
The piece was created in 2003 by artists Margie Britz and Liz McGowan as part of a group exhibition and was designed to evoke the same wonder people feel when gazing at the night sky.
Asteroidea is a giant ball of starfish, created using the sea creatures collected from beaches between Holkham and Weybourne, often stranded by a mix of strong winds and high tides. As artist Liz McGowan said, “They have been taken from the depths of the sea and thrown up into the sky as a constellation. As above, so below.”
The artwork will be on display in St Nicholas’ Church in Salthouse from Sunday 21 June to Sunday 5 July. The church will be open daily from 10am to 5.30pm (Sundays 11am to 5.30pm).
