Students from Ark Alexandra Academy have been given a unique opportunity to contribute to the town’s future, working alongside arts group INSTAR as part of an exciting Hastings regeneration project.
INSTAR has been commissioned to design a new sculpture for the town centre, and as part of their creative process, they are involving local schools to help shape the ideas for its surface design.
During their visit, students took part in an inspiring hands-on workshop, creating lino cut prints inspired by local wildlife. Using traditional Japanese printing techniques, they explored texture, pattern, and composition, producing detailed and imaginative designs.
The results were exceptional, with students demonstrating both creativity and technical skill. Instar praised the quality of the work, highlighting the originality and effort shown throughout the workshop.
The collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting creative journey. Instar will return in June to share updates on the sculpture’s development and continue working with students as the project progresses.
This initiative not only celebrates creativity but also gives students the opportunity to contribute to a lasting piece of public art in their local community.
