Peninsula School of Art (PenArt) is hosting the inaugural Door County Contemporary art fair June 5-8.
The fair will host 20 galleries from Wisconsin and beyond, as well as site-specific art programming, guest speakers, guided tours, refreshments and curated VIP events for 250 special guests.
Four Milwaukee art professionals – Josh Hintz, Shane McAdams, Shane Walsh and Jaymee Harvey Wilms – conceived of the project as a way to connect Wisconsin with the wider art world.
Hintz and McAdams both run art galleries of their own in Milwaukee – Var and Real Tinsel, respectively – and felt that all the pieces were in place to bring a contemporary art fair to Door County for the first time. Organizers hope the event will unite local makers, artisans, creatives and supporters of the arts with a larger audience and build connections across the region.
Featured events include an artist talk by local painter Meg Lionel Murphy, a panel discussion on building a sustainable creative economy, and a lecture on an exhibit of art made in Wisconsin prisons.
