Kent County, MI – The 55th annual Fallasburg Arts Festival in Lowell returns this month, featuring100 unique fine art and fine craft booths.
The two-day outdoor festival is scheduled for September 16-17, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., in picturesque Fallasburg Park, at 1124 Fallasburg Park Dr. NE, located approximately 20 miles east of Grand Rapids in downtown Lowell.
Presented by LowellArts, the community is invited to watch artisans at work who traveled from around the state and country to be part of the juried art festival.
“The main focus is the fact that we have 100 booths of quality fine art that people can wander through beautiful Fallasburg Park and enjoy the artwork,” Janet Teunis, executive director at LowellArts, told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press.
The annual event brings in an estimated 25,000 people to downtown Lowell each year. Sponsors include Fifth Third Bank, Meijer, Herbrucks Poultry Ranch, and Litehouse Inc.
Besides the arts and craft booths, there will be live music, fall-inspired food vendors, a children’s craft area, craft demonstrations, and a raffle. Admission is free but parking is $5.
“We’re really pleased to be able to host the event again,” Tenuis said. “I think the weather is going to be cooler for that weekend and you kind of get into the fall spirit of things with all the pumpkins and decorations. It’s an enjoyable time to come and look at art and hang out with friends and family.”
The “Drums for All with Josh Dunigan” is a new event that gives festivalgoers an opportunity to watch live glass-blowing. The popular pumpkin decorating will return this year.
People can purchase tickets for a raffle benefiting LowellArts to win a queen-size quilt created by Mary Tobin, or one of over 75 other artist-made items donated by festival artists. Tickets are $2 each, 4 for $5 or 10 for $10. Participants do not have to be present to win. For more information, visit the LowellArts website.
Visitors of all ages are invited to watch demonstrations, including gourd art, mosaic, fly tying, quilting, weaving, needle felting, wood turning, wood carving, and more.
