The Dorset Open will be held at the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, Dorchester, from Saturday, October 18 until Sunday, November 30.
It will feature selected works that explore the relationship between the artist and the region including its landscape, people and history.
The entries were reviewed by a judging panel of five experts including Curator and Gallerist Freeny Yianni, editor of Evolver Magazine Simon Barber, curator at Arts in Hospital Suzy Rushbrook, sculptor Ian Middleton and artist and participant in BBC Extraordinary Portraits Jack Dickson.
Paul Newman, creative director of Dorset Visual Arts, said: “We were delighted by the overwhelming interest and the exceptional quality and diversity of submissions for The Dorset Open.
“The judges dedicated considerable time to their deliberations, ultimately selecting works that showcase the wide range of artistic expression and media employed by artists in their creative interpretations of our beautiful region.”
Categories include a climate emergency award for artwork that either uses sustainable methods or explores environmental concerns.
