ARTWORKS by Ivatan artists are on display for the month of June at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Gallery.

Titled “Classics and Ivatan,” the exhibit features the works of Yaru nu Artes Ivatan, an artist collective from Batanes committed to promoting the arts as an eco-friendly and sustainable livelihood that supports indigenous Ivatan culture and heritage.
Beyond showcasing skill and creativity, the collective nurtures fellowship in the visual, literary, and performing arts.
Its members – passionate young artists – also engage in teaching, community support and collaborations with local and visiting creatives.
The works of Jerish Alcoy, Rhodelyn Come, Lloyd Mina, Marrel Pajanil, Jhai Portez and Vorz Portez offer audiences a unique glimpse into Ivatan cultural memory and expression.
In a description written by artist and curator Guilbert Bongay, “Classics and Ivatan” is described as both timeless and boundless.
“Each canvas contains these relics that carry the remarkable stories passed down from generation to generation. In every hue and texture lies a culture that endures – unshaken, unyielding, and beautifully, unmistakably Ivatan,” it says.
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is free.
