Four working artists from Guildford’s twin town Freiburg are bringing a selection of their artworks for an exhibition at Guildford House Gallery to be shown from June 18-21.
And in September, four working artists from Guildford will be going to Freiburg to exhibit their work there and complete an exchange.
Barbara Ford, chair of the Guildford Twinning Association, said: “We have two artists signed up so far, and are recruiting two more. We are in touch with Guildford Art Society and New Art House – but any artist, regardless of affiliation, who would be interesting in participating in an expenses-paid trip to a beautiful German city, explore the German art scene and exhibit their own works, should contact us at: guildfordtwinning@gmail.com.
“This is the first time since 2019 – before Covid – that we’ve been able arrange this type of exchange so I hope many will come to Guildford House Gallery between 18-21 June, 10.30am-4.30pm, for a free viewing of some fascinating artworks.”
The Guildford Twinning Associations is a voluntary organisation, supporting the 1979 twinning of Guildford and Freiburg and promoting contacts and exchanges.
The Freiburg artists, all members of the BBK Südbaden artists’ association, produce a wide range of types of work but their common thread for the exhibition will be graphic art. They will be showcasing different techniques, from classic to experimental, including etching, photogravure, carborundum, screenprints on metal and experimental woodprint.
And to provide a complete contrast and emphasise the fact that all this is part of an exchange, the GTA has recruited Guildford artist Ron McGill to show some of his figurative work: oil paintings of Guildford and Venice. The GBC’s Heritage team are now working hard on the practical details of managing all the artworks.
