PHOTOS: Community gathers for 1st Fridays on Main, sculpture unveiling in downtown Mitchell – Mitchell Republic


MITCHELL — Main Street buzzed with activity Friday evening as residents turned out for the season’s first 1st Fridays on Main event, celebrating local art, music and community spirit.

The evening included the unveiling of Hope, the first permanent sculpture to be installed on Mitchell’s Main Street. Created by local artist Clark Martinek, the piece was revealed during a brief ceremony attended by Mitchell Main Street and Beyond officials, artists and community members.

The sculpture, positioned prominently near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street.

Adam Thury joined the Mitchell Republic in March of 2022. He was born and raised in Mitchell, S.D., and graduated from Mitchell High School in 2015. He always had an eye for photography but started honing his skills mid-2014. He has worked on growing his knowledge of photography by shooting for local events.
