MARESA’s 8th annual Sharing Nature with Children returns to Lakenenland

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – Kids spent the nice weather outside on Saturday at Lakenenland Sculpture Park. MARESA held its 8th annual Sharing Nature with Children.

Families could try out a variety of outdoor activities like fishing and seed planting. MARESA Great Start Collaborative Director Angela Miller-Porter says childhood is increasingly moving indoors.

“Developmentally, children need it,” she said. “Their creativity levels go up, their social skills go up, just in their interaction. Just the joy and the vitamin D and the physical activity of being outside is a joy for everyone.”

Miller-Porter says the outdoors supports children’s growth. She hopes kids can take the fun they learned on Saturday back home.
