HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – For more than 20 years, one Valley artist has been creating glass art and after traveling different places in the world, now her art is displayed right in the heart of the Friendly City.

Glass artist, Barbara Camph has turned her passions into a reality.

“My art is glass art but it takes it form in traditional stained glass or mosaics and fused glass,” Camph said.

She has been a full-time stained glass artist for more than 20 years, running her own business in southern Portugal, Panama and now the U.S.

“When we moved to Portugal, I took my hobby and it became my business. And that’s very different, doing it as a business versus a hobby. As a business, when you need the money to eat, you have to do things that will sell,” Camph said.

As she made her way to Harrisonburg, she said she has had the opportunity to create business along with what she enjoys.

“Its changed so that I can do other things as well. And so I do things that will sell, but I also do things that I like to do. So, you know, and currently that’s mosaics,” Camph said.

Her mosaics and other glass art creations are now proudly displayed at the OASIS Fine Art & Craft. Camph said that her mother was one of the early members of the studio.

“Ever since I moved here, she was after me to join Oasis, and I thoroughly enjoyed it,” Camph said.

Now during her time at the co-op art studio she has not only found a home for her work but for herself.

“I like working with other artists and the community and Oasis gives me that,” Camph said.
