TEXARKANA, Texas(KSLA) – A new and unique sculpture has appeared in Texarkana.
“Have You Seen My Bike” is the title of a new lion sculpture at the Texarkana Texas Public Library. The arrival of this structure is one of the latest projects by Main Street Texarkana.
“We wanted to do something to inspire people to come into the doors,” says Ina McDowell, of Main Street Texarkana.
Ina McDowell is the executive director for Main Street Texarkana. McDowell obtained the sculpture from Jason Miller, an artist from Galveston Texas. Leaders are hoping this addition will bring more people to the downtown area and visit the library as it will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
“It has been removed from an art gallery there in Galveston, it’s been a tremendous tourist stop for them so we feel fortunate to be able to acquire this new piece.”
The sculpture is made from many parts including several musical instruments and other items. Somewhere inside the sculpture is a bicycle.
“If you go back and look at the mane it looks like hair but he made it from 50 brooms,” says McDowell.
“I think it’s a great art piece with a lot of detail (what is it?) it’s a lion,” Robin Tilly, a library visitor.
McDowell was able to secure the funding for the sculpture through the nonprofit Patterson Troike Foundation. Funds she says should bring a lot more to the city.
“It will bring so many people in the doors and we really feel confident it will bring a lot of people in the downtown area just to see this interesting piece,” says McDowell.
