MUMBAI-Actor Vijay Varma, known for his work in ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Mirzapur’ and ‘Darlings’, has acquired a prized possession straight from the deepest archives of Bollywood.
On September 4, the actor shared pictures from his home. His recent purchase is an art imitation of the iconic painting by Majnu bhai from the film ‘Welcome’. The hilariously absurd painting, of a donkey standing on top of a horse, was painted with complete seriousness by Majnu bhai (essayed by Anil Kapoor) as if it were a masterpiece.
The actor wrote in the caption, “Yes, I’m an Art Connoisseur. Sharing my moment with the most iconic painting from Bollywood… no painting has ever brought this much joy to us @aneesbazmee sir @anilskapoor sir respect. Majnu Bhai supremacy”.
The painting appears in the film during an auction scene, which changes the course of the plot. The humor comes from the contrast that a dreaded gangster acts like a sensitive, misunderstood artiste, yet produces a completely nonsensical painting.
The painting became a meme and a pop culture symbol in India, often used to represent ‘abstract art no one understands’.
A few weeks ago, Vijay Varma spoke about embracing a fresh chapter in his life. He announced “new beginnings” on the professional front, months after his reported breakup with Tamannaah Bhatia. (IANS)
