MILLVILLE – The 19th annual Festival of Fine Craft will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8, rain or shine, at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center at 1501 Glasstown Road. The event, sponsored by OceanFirst, features works by more than 150 juried, contemporary and traditional artists. Throughout the Wheaton Arts campus, artists working in clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed medium, wearable art, wood, and more will display their work. Visitors will have the chance to interact with these artists and watch demonstrations throughout the event, in addition to the regularly offered Wheaton Arts demonstrations in the Glass, Pottery and Flameworking Studio
The Glass Pumpkin Patch will be in the center of the Wheaton Arts campus. More than 5,000 glass pumpkins make up the patch and come in all sizes, shapes, and colors; each of which have been uniquely handcrafted by resident glass blowers. Proceeds from the sales of the glass pumpkins will support arts educational programming.
The festival will include a Beer and Wine Garden, which will feature beverages from Cape May Brewery and Bellview Winery. South Jersey’s own Package Goods Orchestra will provide the music. Food will also be available from a variety of vendors. Families are invited to participate in complimentary art making activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, such as pendulum painting, creature printmaking, mosaic rocks, scarecrow construction, and sidewalk chalk. Also, artistic hands-on opportunities, like creating your own silk scarf, aluminum casting and basket weaving, are available throughout the grounds for additional fees. Visitors may also participate in a community art project called “Memory Objects.” The project, led by Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship recipient Mark Kobasz, encases in glass the photographs and scans of memory objects brought in by individuals to become incorporated into a large installation.
Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for senior adults, $7 for students, and free for children age 5 and younger. Guests who want to attend both days should request a Tomorrow Pass. Parking and shuttle service are free.
