The wellness ritual you can’t live without? My work as an auctioneer can be high-pressure, and when I need to relax, I do weight training. I find it an almost meditative practice and do it three times a week, either at Pure Fitness or at the clubhouse at home.
The most conversation-sparking feature in your home? Guests often comment on the design of our home, which my talented wife, Grace, can take credit for. We live in Tseung Kwan O and have a great sea view. She made the most of the ocean vibe with blue walls and white furniture. It gives us a holiday feeling.
A scent that immediately brings you joy? My mother runs an aromatherapy business and, growing up, I was surrounded by perfumes and essential oils. She taught me about the functions of different oils. Magnolia is my favourite – it not only smells good but also relieves the respiratory issues I sometimes get when the weather in Hong Kong is hot and humid.
Your favourite city and the first thing you do there? After my graduation in 2008, I went to Beijing to start my career. It was the year of the Olympics and it was great to be a witness to that. When I go back, I always have Peking duck at the restaurant near my old home. It reminds me of that exciting time as a fresh grad.

An item you never travel without? A gua sha. It’s used as part of a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves scraping the skin with a stone tool. My mother taught me how to use it, and if I feel a headache coming on, I use it to scrape the skin on my neck and apply essential oil.
