Rabat – The National Foundation of Museums (FNM) has announced the appointment of art historian and curator Nadia Sabri as the new Director of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI).
Sabri succeeded Abdelaziz El Idrissi as part of the foundation’s administrative reorganization.
A university professor and president of AICA Morocco (the International Association of Art Critics), Sabri brings a wealth of experience to the role.
According to the FNM, she will continue efforts to expand access to art among young audiences, strengthen the museum’s collections, and enrich its exhibition programming nationally and internationally.
Over the past eleven years, the MMVI has established itself as a cornerstone of Morocco’s cultural landscape in promoting contemporary artistic practices and engaging in international cultural exchange.
As part of the reshuffle, Abdelaziz El Idrissi, who has led the museum since its inauguration by King Mohammed VI in 2014, will now serve as Head of the Museums Department within the FNM.
In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of cultural programming, inventory and digitization projects, permanent and temporary exhibitions, and initiatives to enhance and promote museum collections.
The FNM stated that this restructuring reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and advancing Morocco’s museum development strategy.
Morocco has been steadily expanding its artistic and cultural landscape in recent years, seeking to make art more accessible while positioning the country as a regional hub for creativity and heritage.
Through new museums, restoration projects, and international partnerships, Morocco seeks to foster a dynamic ecosystem that bridges tradition and modern expression.
