Byard Art Cambridge launches new community initiative

Byard Art, the contemporary art gallery in central Cambridge, is hosting ‘Selfie with Art: Be an Art Advocate’ – a creative and community-driven campaign throughout August.

This public initiative is designed to spotlight top artistic talent from across the UK and beyond, while also celebrating the role of independent galleries in keeping the arts interesting and accessible.

The gallery is inviting visitors to engage with its current exhibitions in a “fun and meaningful way”.

Visit Byard Art at 14 King’s Parade, Cambridge, take a selfie with your favourite artwork, and post it on social media using #ArtAdvocate, and tag @ByardArt and the artist.

These posts help amplify the voices of artists and celebrate independent galleries, like Byard.

As a ‘thank you’ participants will be entered into a special prize draw at the end of August.

Jessie White, gallery manager, says: “Art should be shared, discussed, and enjoyed – and what better way to do that than through something as simple and fun as a selfie?

“Every post helps amplify the voices of artists and the value of creative spaces.”

She adds: “Independent galleries are vital to the cultural landscape. This initiative is our way of shining a light on both the artists we represent and the importance of spaces like ours that keep art accessible and personal.

“We wanted to create a campaign that not only celebrates brilliant contemporary artists, but also invites the public to become part of that celebration.

‘Selfie with Art’ is about connection – between the viewer, the artwork, the artist, and the community.”
