Chattogram hosted the district-level round of the nationwide Colours of ’24: Graffiti and Art Competition today, from 10am to 2pm, with vibrant artworks displayed across selected city walls and public spaces.
Finalists from all upazilas in the district took part, having earned top-three positions at their respective upazila-level competitions. Students competed in two categories: classes 6–10 and 11–12.
The initiative is being carried out under the Ministry of Education’s directive, following a circular issued on 10 July by the Secondary and Higher Education Division. The competition aims to mark the anniversary of the July 2024 uprising, with committees at all administrative levels overseeing its rollout nationwide.
The walls came alive with powerful illustrations capturing defining moments from the July 2024 mass uprising — faces of resistance, slogans of protest, scenes of defiance, and the people’s yearning for justice and change. The artworks conveyed not only artistic talent but a deep emotional response to a turning point in recent national history.
“We didn’t just draw pictures — we wanted to express how this time shook us to our core,” said Fahima Akhter, a participant from Patiya.
Delowar Hossain, lecturer at Government Alaol Degree College, praised the students’ engagement: “They’ve gone beyond art — they’ve etched our times onto these walls. This experience will enrich their creativity and strengthen their sense of civic consciousness.”
Winners from both categories were announced at the conclusion of the event. They will proceed to the divisional round, with successful participants moving on to the national stage.
