LSU School of Art show is open | Baton Rouge


LSU School of Art ‘summer contemporary’ is open 

The LSU School of Art and LSU College of Art + Design’s summer contemporary, entitled “FELT,” is open to the public. The exhibition, featuring work from 31 artists, will be on view through Aug. 23 at the Glassell Gallery, located in downtown Baton Rouge’s Shaw Center for the Arts at 100 Lafayette St.

Programs include:

  • Hand Sculpting with Clay 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, at the Glassell Gallery: Led by LSU School of Art MFA ’26 and FELT artist Sarah Moschel Miller, this two-hour experiential workshop emphasizes tactile expression by sculpting faces from a solid block of clay with your hands. The event is free and open to ages 14 and older. Space is limited; preregistration is required via Eventbrite.

  • Nature Connection with Lilia Kapsali-Grant 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9, at BREC Bayou Manchac Park: Join nature connection facilitator Lilia Kapsali-Grant for meditation, embodiment and creative practices at Manchac Swamp. The event is free and open to ages 14 and older. Space is limited; preregistration is required via Eventbrite.

  • Observation of Sensation through Sound with Precept Works 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at Glassell Gallery: Participate in sound immersion with Christina Loughlin. The event is free and open to ages 14 and older.

  • Reception and Awards Presentation 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23, at Glassell Gallery: Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be offered to celebrate the closing of the summer contemporary. The awards will be presented by Juror Emily Wilkinson at 7 p.m.

Full program details and registration links are available at mailchi.mp/lsu/felt. Admission to LSU School of Art’s Glassell Gallery and its programs is free and open to all. Glassell Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. with public hours extended to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Friday. Glassell Gallery is closed on Mondays, between exhibitions, and during LSU closures.

Powering the Past: Antique Engines Showcase 

The Antique Engines Showcase is where horsepower meets history. See historic machinery in action from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 26 at the LSU Rural Life Museum, 4560 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge. From flywheel engines and rope-making machines, to classic tractors and sugar cane grinders, this special event celebrates the mechanical power that shaped rural Louisiana.

The event will some of the following equipment and demonstrations:

  • Marine and flywheel engines
  • Classic tractors and cars
  • Antique water pump and sugar cane grinders
  • Rope-making and rural machinery demonstrations.

Admission is included with general museum entry — free for museum members.
