Elvis Costello portrait catches eyes at Barons Quay art show

The magnificent picture, painstakingly painted by award-winning artist David Sagerson, is part of Visual Arts Cheshire’s (VAC) current double exhibition, Portraits and Heritage, at its Barons Quay pop-up gallery.

Alongside the portraits, visitors to the show get to see some arresting scenes of Northwich and the surround area, including one of Winnington Works by local artist Bernice Tackley, whose studio overlooks the Trent and Mersey Canal in Barnton.

The exhibition of around 130 images of well-known faces and well-loved local scenes runs until May 17, and is free to attend.

The gallery, next to the Odeon cinema, is open Thursdays to Saturdays during exhibitions, from 10.30am to 4pm.

VAC’s Phil Carswell said: “David’s arresting portrait of Elvis Costello along with Bernice’s Tackley’s evocative paintings of Northwich’s industrial past have attracted a lot of attention and admiration from visitors to the gallery.

“There are over 130 paintings in the combined exhibitions with fabulous work from a range of local artists.

“There are some truly stunning paintings on display right now.

“Come along and see if you can recognise any of the famous faces and reminisce about aspects of our shared heritage.”
