Created by pupils from Newquay Junior Academy and unveiled at Newquay Station, the project was commissioned by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership and led by artist Alissa Kindred through creative workshops.
Rebecca Catterall from the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership said: “The artwork the children have created has further enhanced the station environment, and I hope it will delight passengers who pass through the station with its wonderfully vibrant depiction of Newquay.”
The artwork was produced using a mix of paints, collage, and illustration, and is designed to reflect the spirit of Newquay.
Alissa said: “It was a real pleasure and privilege to work with Newquay Junior Academy kids to create this artwork.
“From start to finish they showed great creativity and made something that truly belongs to them and captures Newquay.”
Lisa Mann, deputy head teacher at Newquay Junior Academy, said: “We are incredibly grateful to have been involved in this project and our pupils are so proud to see their work come to life on the station.”
Lee Goodson, GWR station manager for Newquay, said: “We’re thrilled to have this vibrant, eye-catching artwork take pride of place in Newquay station for our customers and colleagues to enjoy.
“It’s a welcome addition to the station just in time for the Mid Cornwall Metro services to start, which will nearly double the services between Par and Newquay and bring more visitors to the area.”
The project was funded by CrossCountry Trains through its Community Engagement Fund.
The Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership is a non-profit organisation aiming to promote branch lines across both counties.
