A beloved outdoor art destination in Seneca Falls will mark a major transformation with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 18.
The Friends of the Ludovico Sculpture Trail, in partnership with the Cayuga Nation, will host the event to celebrate the completion of significant enhancements to the trail. The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. at the trailhead along the south bank of the Seneca River/Barge Canal.
Backed by a New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant and major support from the Cayuga Nation, the project has improved accessibility and added cultural features to the trail. “The trailhead enhancement has been a long-term goal for years. It has finally become a reality with the support of the NY State DRI grant and the Cayuga Nation contributions,” said Liz Rossetti, President of the Friends of the Ludovico Sculpture Trail. “The Trail is a gem—bringing art to nature.”
The upgrades include a new clay brick trailhead, fresh benches, native plantings, and rehabilitation of 600 feet of compacted stone pathway. Rest areas along the trail were also restored with brick paving.
Five new sculptures were added, and existing damaged artwork was repaired. Notably, Finger Lakes sculptor Sam Castner contributed new installations, while Paulina Garcia designed custom signage and art plaques. Drainage improvements were also made to support year-round use.
Design was led by Steele Landscape Architecture, with DiFiore Construction handling the build.
The Ludovico Sculpture Trail is part of the larger Erie Canalway Trail system and remains a key cultural and recreational resource for the region.
